Yay! An acceptance.

Now this is nice: one of my favourite short stories, The Wall at the End of the World, has been accepted for publication by New Myths magazine. Here’s the acceptance note:

Hi Edoardo,

I really enjoyed reading “The Wall at the End of the World,” — and I hope our readers will too!  We’d like to publish it in our June issue.
Pasted below is our contract and a short questionaire.  Please check over and fill both out and return them to us as soon as possible.
Within the next week or so, I’ll be getting back in touch with you regarding any editing suggestions I might ask you to consider.  I look forward to working with you on it.

What I think of this review.

Me, when I receive an acceptance note.

Dear Edoardo,

Thank you for sending us your excellent story, “Spellman Mathers’ Travelling Show & Zoo of Ordinary Creatures”. We love it and would like to publish it in an upcoming issue of See the Elephant Magazine. The pay rate is 6c/word with a maximum of $200 for print, electronic and audio rights. Please email me at […] to let me know if this is agreeable. If so, I will follow up with a contract. It might be a while before I get to that phase of the process, as I need to finish issue two, but I wanted you to know that your story is definitely in for either issue three or four.

Acceptance notes – no.14 in a series

Dear Edoardo,

Thanks for the opportunity to read your story.  I really enjoyed it and would love to include it in the next issue of Circa (Spring 2015).  However, I feel there is a problem with the title.  It is evidently the first in a series but since there is no series to follow immediately, would you consider giving the piece a title that could stand alone?  If you can rename it, please let me know soon and I will add your story to the next issue.

Acceptance notes – no.13 in a series

Of course, nothing prompts a renewal of the rejection notes series more than an acceptance note, and here’s a good one! I’m delighted to have found a home for Knock, Knock – it’s one of my favourite stories and the journal that will be publishing it is excellent.

Dear Edoardo,

Thanks for sending this story, I really enjoyed reading it. We have just finalised our selection for Issue Seven however, and don’t have any more room. Would you be willing for us to hold onto this for Issue Eight (December 2014)?

If you prefer to submit elsewhere for a while, that’s OK just let me know, and I can leave this piece sitting here for a few months.

Alternatively, if you’re definitely happy to have it in Issue Eight, let me know and I’ll accept it now.

Either way is cool.

Reader, he said yes.

We would like to publish your story, “Ghosts of Mars”, in Daily Science Fiction.  We’ll email a contract to you shortly for your approval. A sample email, including any edits to your story that may be necessary, will come later.  The edits will be sent with enough time for your feedback, so we may resolve any issues and present the best possible story to our audience.

– Jonathan & Michele, Daily Science Fiction

PS If for any reason, you no longer wish to publish this story with us (e.g, forgotten prior publication, actually authored by a Unicorn, etc.), now would be a very good time to let us know!

Dear Edoardo,

This from Senior Story Editor Jade:
This is wonderful!  I can’t add anything more.  A truly magnificent story.  Jade
Can’t argue with that.  Sounds like you have another fan.

Acceptance Notes – no.10 in a series

Hi, Edoardo–

We’d be pleased to accept the story, “From Here to the Northern Line,” for inclusion in Third Flatiron Publishing’s spring 2014 anthology, with the working title,  “Astronomical Odds.”

Please let us know if the story is still available.

We found the story about an autistic boy who spots Tube stations to the stars to be very entertaining.

We’d want the exclusive e-rights for six months. If this sounds good, please let me know, and I’ll get back with a contract. The anthology is scheduled for e-publication on March 15, 2014.

Acceptance notes – no.8 in a series

But however nice a rejection note, it will never be as good as an acceptance, particularly one like this! Triple whammy!

Thank you for your submission.

The Elephant’s Boy – an excellent story accepted.

The Reluctant Eagle – this section does not make sense:

The Reluctant Eagle said nothing. And then he made a big mistake. He looked down again.

“Oh no,” he said and closed his eyes tight shut.

So he did not see Mr Fox put his long red snout right up against his ear .

             The Reluctant Eagle jumped.

If he is high up it is not possible for the Fox to go ‘Boo’ in his ear. If we can resolve this it will be accepted. [Gentle reader, it was.]

The Pigeon’s Revenge – this story is exceptional and is most definitely accepted. Have you thought about approaching film companies with regard to it being made into an animated film? I have emailed Aardman animation this morning to enquire about the method of their considering such work.

Dear […], and Edoardo,

Congratulations! I have chosen your stories to be the lineup for our August Revolution-themed issue of Penumbra~! I was so very pleased with your stories, and how you managed to avoid the obvious route for stories about revolutions and instead took unexpected routes in your exploration of the theme. This may be one of my favorite Penumbra issues ever–which is saying quite a lot.

And above all, congratulations! I’m looking forward to putting this issue together, and hopefully will see many stories from all of you at Penumbra in the future.
